Hi Moothi,
I advise you to go for designer training class, if not go through Designer pdf (comes with CD) at least. It is very difficult to explain every thing here – this forum is for problem solving not for training.

Gathering reporting requirements is the first step - you shouldn’t be touching the designer tools for a few weeks until you understand what you need to deliver.
And might I suggest a training class and/or a book to get you started.
