Lumira - Inconsistent visualisations for non-admin users

BO BIP 4.1 SP07
Lumira Server for BI Platform 1.31.8
Clustered environment 2 x BOBIP + 2 x Lumira server

This is really odd so hopefully someone has some ideas here - it’s currently with supplier support who have passed it on to SAP support, but it’s strange enough that I though people here with inquisitive minds may be able to help or be interested.

We have regular users reporting inconsistency issues with Lumira visualisations viewed via our BO BI Platform. The report is multi-page, multi-source (Excel + Universe) and contains a fair number of graphs over 12 pages. The underlying data is not substantial in terms of row counts though (~1000s). When they view the report - if it starts at all sometimes it gets stuck with the three dots - the visualisations elements display inconsistently, sometimes correctly and sometimes as though there is no data - graph axes appear but no plot. Switching back and forth between pages will mess with the consistency, some report elements which were correct look like they no longer have data others which weren’t displaying correctly now are OK. Consistency is by visualisation not page, so a page with two or more visualisations on may have one correct and one incorrect.

Interestingly we noted that users with higher privileges, e.g. administrators and Lumira developers, were not having any problems viewing the reports. This is where things get odd. If a regular user who is experiencing the problem logs out of the BI system in the browser and a user with higher privileges logs in to the BI system on the same PC the report runs OK. Then further to this if the regular user then logs back in again on the same PC the report is now correct for them! I.e. the act of the higher privilege user running the report in the same browser “fixes” the problem for the other user.

Reproducing the problem. I had been having trouble consistently reproducing the problem. I.e. once the issue was fixed by a higher privilege user I couldn’t work out what triggered it reappearing. I knew it recurred after the weekend when we restart the systems on each box, but I couldn’t get this to trigger the problem midweek. I then discovered that restarting the SIA wasn’t a problem but that restarting Tomcat on the two BO BIP nodes in the cluster caused the issue to reappear.

Other significant info:
[list]
We have disabled the second Lumira node on our production system and the issue does not occur there anymore - so this seems to be something to do with the clustering
System is clustered 2 x BOBIP nodes and 2 x Lumira nodes
Each node is Windows server 2012 VM well sized for the load
The second Lumira node was recently added
Lumira was on version 1.29.3 and recently upgraded to 1.31.8
SSL is enabled and the system is accessed via an F5 load balancer
