Can BO handle Multi-lingual Translations

IS it possible to see a report in French or any other International language for an end-user with minimal Business Objects knowledge.

Thanks.

Business Objects supports a number of languages but not ‘any other’. Do you have any specific ones in mind. Its not totally clear what you are asking for though. Do you have a report in one language that you would like to distribute in a number of different languages? If you do an install from the international cd you can install a number of languages - and you get the demo reports in each of these languages.

Also, have a look at this recent thread.

How many languages does BO currently support. Is it at the time of an install that you specify which languages you need to be viewing the reports in or is there a default number of languages supported by the software? Another thing, will the statistics/figures in my report change or remain the same even though I am viewing it in say Japanese. Hope this make me pretty clear. Thanks a lot for the help.

This from http://www.businessobjects.com/products/

English, Portuguese, French, Japanese, German, Korean, Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Russian, Dutch, Czech, Swedish, Polish, Danish, Hebrew

At the time of install you specify which languages you would like installing. Having only ever worked in an English-language company I don’t know how the different languages then work, in terms of report viewing. One thing is for sure, we have plenty of people on this board who should be able to help.

Hi,

I need some information reg. multi-lingual support in BO.

Is anyone out there installed BO in any language other than English language…

Can i have multi-language support dynamic…Meaning based on the user input i need to a display a report in the required language…say the user selects French, can the report be generated in French language on the fly or as selected by the user

i feel static multi-language support is possible based on the type of installation…But i doubt about the dynamism of language selection…

Thanks in advance

Hi there,
Reg. ur req. of multilingual support…in a dynamic form where the report labels can be changed from user input…what we did is store text in a table associated toa ID and Code (EN/DE…). So a same text is kept in the table in multilanguages. While refreshing the report, the user selects the language of his choice and all the labels are then taken associated to the language code.
This implementation I have done from EN, FR (French) and DE (German).

I hope this helps u.

regards,
-Anand

Well, in fact you are facing two challenges:

  1. to translate the page and column headers
You can create special objects in the universe with case statements and hardcode these or use translation tables
  2. to translate the data, like product descriptions etc.
This must be done through tables in the database, and maintained by the users.

If there is an application you are reporting on, they probably already have translations available.
And a warning: don’t do the translations yourself (how easy it may look) but let the right departments deliver translations to you.

Another possibility is using a special product which sits between the Webi server and the user, an example is WizTom (http://www.wizart.com/en/index.shtml).
