Compare between BO and Microsoft Sql Reporting Services

I need to give a demo on 8/18 on BO in our company to Top executives.
Couple of the TOP Level Executives are towards Microsoft SQL server Report Services. They want to go towards it.

We already have BO enviroment built in with resources. Our Team(planning and Development) want TO go towards BO. so that we will have one standrad Enterprsie level Reporting.

Can i know the differences between BO and SSRS. Is there any one feature on which i can Emphazize and show BO as the TO GO TOOL for BI.

Please let me know if you have any good DEMO s for BO.
Being a BO Admin, I have to act like a BO Sales Person to prepare a demo…

I am facing the same situation at my company. The SQL server reporting tool is far cheaper than BO. The company does not need a specialist to work on SQL Server tool and any ETL person working on SQL Server database can do that task. The only think in favor of BO can be the analysis part, which again can be handled in the SQL server tool by making efficient cubes.

Let me know if you have any further information.

The question is too broad to answer. If your company needs adhoc reporting, BO is what they should be looking for. If they don’t do adhoc reporting, then SSRS is a better choice as it comes free with Microsoft SQL Server.

Get hold of your vendor / sales rep ASAP and let him do most of this grunt work :yesnod:
You don’t have to include them in the process but trust me - if they have an inkling that they might lose an account they will get you all the details that you need …

Also make sure you understand your company direction and current and anticipated component usage. A good idea is to start with all the components before getting down to the specifics

Thanks for the information.
This is what i got the answer from BO Sales Person

I think it is important to point out the MS is like an iceberg, the price is just the tip and the TCO (services, etc) is hidden underneath. The real value of BI is to support cross databases, platforms, and applications; MS is the exac opposite of this and this is a major contributory factor to their cost of ownership. With MS, customers often move their data into SQL Server environment before it can be used in any of MS’s BI tools. Being open and heterogeneous is a crucial part in the overall process in which data is delivered to a business user. For SAP BOBJ, it is also more than just accessing multiple and/or different data sources. It is in fact a continuum with several dimensions - the data source being only just one; the others being portal, middleware, operating system, development environment, as well as, applications.

I agree with Mike Davies,

Get your SAP sales rep to work for you, they can provide you with Competitive Battlecard documents that highlight the strengths and weaknesses of many different reporting tools  .
I recently requested one for Mircorsoft’s PerformancePoint Server which was very well received by our CTO team which helped us clinch Business Objects for our reporting platform :+1:.

Um, top management wants to use one solution and the development team wants to use another? That’s a train wreck waiting to happen. If you don’t get support from the top down, I’ve found that it’s virtually impossible to push a technology direction upstream.

That said, a “vertical” application like SSxS (that is, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, etc.) works best when it gets to play with systems of its own kind. When you start introducing anything other than Microsoft sources into it, it gets a little sloppy to make it all work together nicely. If all you have to do is report, then you’re not too bad, but if you’re talking ETL, then BODI (or BODS if you’re on the latest stuff) blows SSIS out of the water.

Good luck.
