Moved to CMC from Semantic Layer, thanks

Did you lose it thus you can no longer logon the CMC or do you want to reset it?

I don’t know why we are answering a question with a question. The original poster is simply asking how to reset the password. In CMC, go to users, click on Administrator, there you can change the password, but be careful while you do that.

In addition to resetting the password in the CMC, it can also be reset in InfoView. Log in as Administrator, go to Preferences, and then to the Password tab/section, and reset the password there.

Maybe I am missing something here, but didn’t the original poster say he needed to reset the admin password? How can you log in to reset it if you can’t log in because you don’t have the admin password?

The way I read the question was: I don’t have the password, so how can I reset it so I can get back in…

You could be right, Dave. If you don’t know the password, you can’t log in to InfoView to change/reset it. You would have to log into the CMC, as another administrator, and change it.

What if you don’t have another administrator?

Then you’re in deep yogurt. I don’t know of a way to reset an admin password if you don’t know it, and there’s only one administrator.

In which case you can reset it by deleting the record from the CMS database table which stores the admin password and of course it is very risky.

Since the CMS database is binary data only, how would you delete the record? You can’t use SQL commands against it.

I myself deleted it once on my computer. The CMS database was on SQL Server. Hope that helps.

Edit: Here is that link

I remember seeing posts which suggested deleting record from cms_infoobjects5 table in the CMS database where the objectid is 12 or 13 and then logging back in as administrator with blank password. Please search the forum for these posts as I don’t recommend this as it is too risky to mess with the CMS database from the backend.

So what is the alternative?
Just caught this topic because we’ve managed to acheive the same here. Only one Admin user, password ‘mislaid’, XI3 btw & CMS on SQLServer.
Doh!
